FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

I would like to update my kitchen and I'm not sure exactly what I want yet, can you help me?
Absolutely! Give us a call at to talk about options over the phone. We can discuss your needs, talk about our services and process. You may wish to just update your cabinets and countertops, or decide that you really need to go deeper and update flooring, walls, windows, plumbing, move electrical, lighting and more. We can help in either case. We are licensed general contractors with skilled designers and craftsmen.
Do you build your own cabinets?
Yes! We have a full cabinet shop here in Portland in the same building as our showroom. Our own journeyman cabinet makers and craftsmen can build full custom cabinetry for your home. In order to expand our services to meet mid-range budgets, we also offer a semi-custom line of cabinetry that is all built (from the log up!) in the United States. The semi-custom line offers hundreds of finish and style choices - most of which you can see in our showroom.
Is custom substantially more expensive than semi-custom?
Custom cabinetry is typically about 20% more in cost than semi-custom. Keep in mind that within the semi-custom line, there are a few budget levels offered. Often our projects involve blending custom with semi-custom in order to have a personalized, polished space - where everything blends together beautifully.
What parts of town do you work in?
We work in the Portland Metro Area of Oregon. We primarily work in Portland, Beaverton, West Linn, Lake Oswego, Tigard, Tualatin, and the Clackamas area.
I live in Washington. Can you help me?
No. We work in Oregon only. Since we install all of our own cabinetry, we would not be able to take on projects in Washington.
I would like to purchase cabinetry only and install it myself or hire someone to install it. Is this fine?
No. We install all of our own cabinetry and do not offer cabinets only without installation. This is the only way that we can ensure it is installed to the highest industry standards and also allows us to offer a lifetime warranty on our craftsmanship.
I would like to add-on and match our existing cabinetry, do you offer this service?
No. Our services include completely removing your existing cabinetry(when applicable) and installing new cabinetry. In many homes, this will include full service remodel management with flooring, countertops, lighting and appliance updating.
I would like to reface my cabinets, do you offer this service?
No. We do not reface or build to match existing cabinets. Our services include completely removing your existing cabinetry(when applicable) and installing new cabinetry. In many homes, this will include full service remodel management with flooring, countertops, lighting and appliance updating.
If I remodel my kitchen, how much of that investment can I expect to get back out if I sell my home?

This is also a great resource for answering "How much will this remodel cost?" as well as "How much can I expect to recoup from this remodel when I sell my home?"
Visit our showroom to learn more about the differences you can expect between a Moderate Level - Minor Kitchen Remodel and an Upscale Level - Major Kitchen Remodel. We can share samples and pictures with you that help detail the various price ranges and process.
I already have a contractor; will you work with my contractor?
Yes! We are happy to work with licensed contractors. Contractors enjoy working with us because we are reliable, ethical, and responsive to their clients. The biggest relief that they express is that we stick to our promised schedule and have professional craftsmen working in their client's home.
I don't have a contractor; are you still able to help me?
Absolutely. We are licensed in general contracting and manage full-scale remodels every day (this may include any and all of the following trades: electrical, drywall, plumbing, countertops, paint, flooring, appliances, HVAC, trim and finish carpentry.) If you are just replacing cabinets and countertops, you may not need a general contractor and we are able to help you with design and expertise to get exactly what you need.
I have heard nightmare stories from friends about remodeling. Everything from disrespectful subcontractors in their home to surprise added expenses and timelines that are several weeks or even months off target! Should these things concern me if I hire you?
No. We have heard the stories too. Often we get clients who have experienced these things with other contractors in the past. We have even had prospects that hired the cheaper company come back after realizing nothing was saved when adding in all the frustrations. We distinguish ourselves by strictly adhering to tight schedules and using only reliable, experienced and reputable subcontractors to work on our clients homes. We provide a proposal for all work to be completed so there are no hidden "surprises". Many items in a remodel are in your control for budgeting (items such as lighting fixtures, flooring choices, plumbing fixtures, and tile are options that can raise or lower expenses.) If unforeseen issues need to be factored in (such as dryrot that can only be discovered when the walls are open), we will specify how these discoverables will be handled in our contract.
Will you remove our old cabinets?
Yes. We offer all tearout services and ensure that your cabinetry is donated or recycled at your request.
Can we remove them ourselves?
Yes; We can tell you how deep to tear out and how to prepare your space for installation if you want to do this.
Do you offer countertops?
Yes. Alongside new cabinetry, we have a few local countertop companies that we work closely with on a regular basis. These companies are reliable, ethical and can offer you many solutions including granite, solid surface, and marble. Because of our relationship with them, we can ensure timely installation to keep your remodel on schedule.
I have no idea what my project will cost. What should I do?
Give us a call. Most likely, we can talk to you about ball-park budget over the phone. The Cost Vs. Value report can also be a good guide for you based on industry averages in the Portland area.
I'm ready to get started. What do I do now?
Call us at 503-652-1268 to talk about your needs or set an appointment to visit our showroom in person. This is an opportunity for you to see if we are a good fit for your project and we can usually offer ballpark figures for you based upon our past project experiences and your description of the work. If you prefer a home visit to get a ballpark estimate of cost, we are able to come to your home for a $150 which is applied toward your purchase if you proceed with our services.
